In the Midwest a pair of doves will nest, incubate, and raise young on average of 5 times a year. The female usually lays 2 eggs. These eggs are incubated for two weeks and the babies are ready to leave the nest two weeks after that! Your family will enjoy all the activity of watching these elegant and sweet sounding birds!

Cedar will naturally hold up to the weather just fine as is. It does darken, but ages gracefully. If you desire to stain or varnish the exterior, you certainly may. We personally, however, have not found anything we feel is extremely safe for our feathered friends, so we choose not to add anything to the cedar.

Mourning Doves favorite foods are seeds such as millet, shelled sunflower seeds, Nyjer seeds, cracked corn, and safflower seeds.

They need a flat place to feed, and probably are most comfortable just feeding on the ground, so don’t forget to throw seed for them there too.
