Small Owl House; Owl Box
The Salt River Small Owl House is handcrafted from Cedar and designed specifically for the small, Eastern Screech Owl or the Northern Saw-Whet Owl. Carefully constructed, this beauty is nailed, glued and clamped to ensure a tight bond. The roof is covered in attractive cedar shake shingles.
We use an impressive wood glue which is not only water resistant and offers superior bond strength but it is also non toxic and solvent free.
The roof is covered in attractive cedar shake shingles. Each Owl House is unique and may vary slightly from photos. The interior has a "ladder" for the owlets to climb up and there is a ledge below the entrance hole. 3” entrance hole.
***Owl House Dimensions: 17" H x 12" W x 13" D (These are measurements at the roof) The interior of the box measures 9" x 9". Weight: 6 lbs. 2 oz. Clean-out door on front, remove 2 screws. Drainage holes included in bottom of house.
Cedar will naturally hold up to the weather just fine as is. It does grey or darken over time, but ages gracefully. If, however, you desire to stain it, you certainly may.
***Included with your purchase is a wooden bracket,(11.5" H x 5.5" W x 12" D); Screws; One, gallon size bag of pine wood chips (nesting materials) for the bottom of the house. They should be 3-4 inches deep. (cedar wood chips are not advised).
Experts say the Small Owl House should be placed 10-15 ft high with the entrance hole facing East or South. Please use caution and perhaps, get help, to install this Owl House. What an exciting adventure to have a Screech Owl or Saw Whet Owl in your backyard!
The Eastern Screech Owl is 9" tall with a 20" wingspan. The Eastern and Western Screech Owls closely resemble each other. Life can be easier for these owls in suburban areas vs. rural areas.
The Northern Saw-Whet Owl is 7-8" tall with a 16"-18" wingspan and are considered a forest bird. All 3 eat insects and small mammals. They perhaps will solve any rodent problems you may have.
